Episode  Gliding - a Tradition in the Rhon Mountains in Germany
 Duration  30 minutes
 Category  Sports Motoring
Synopsis
The birthplace of gliding is considered by many to be Rhön, a low mountain range in the heart of Germany.

News of “The Human Bird in the Rhön” travelled with lightning speed in 1922, when one of the first gliders managed to stay in the air for over an hour and even climbed over the "Wasserkuppe", the highest point in the mountain range.

The bare treeless landscape at the upper altitudes and most importantly the constant wind makes the Rhön, still today, an ideal location for gliders.

We will be portraying young and old gliders, revealing their experiences and finding out what makes them so enthusiastic about this form of air flight.

Today, there is a gliding school on top of the “Wasserkuppe” that runs courses and organises competitions.

A young glider named Michael Hohmann spends most of his free time there, along with many of his friends.
Gliding is a team sport where one is dependent on help from others.
